Defense officials have terminated Shirley Miles, the former director of the Department of Defense Education Activity, according to a letter sent Tuesday from Defense Secretary Leon Panetta to Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa.

Panetta said Miles was terminated Sept. 24.

Bahrain logistics CO is 19th fired this year

The commanding officer of a Bahrain-based logistics task force was fired for alleged misconduct, 5th Fleet announced Monday.

Capt. David Geisler was relieved by Vice Adm. Mark Fox, 5th Fleet commander, “for a loss of confidence”￾ in Geisler’s ability to command, 5th Fleet said in a press release that added: “an investigation into alleged inappropriate conduct continues.”￾

Shipyard CO’s firing made permanent

The commanding officer of Norfolk Naval Shipyard who was initially fired in May has been permanently relieved of command.

Capt. Greg Thomas was fired for conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman, a violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Fired DDG skipper charged with rape, sodomy

SAN DIEGO – The former commanding officer of the destroyer Momsen has been charged with rape, sodomy and maltreatment and will be court-martialed on Friday, a Navy spokesman confirmed.

The charges stem from two alleged incidents, one with a female officer and another with a female enlisted member, both involving alcohol.

The Navy sure does fire a lot of people. I remember they fired some female captain a few years back because she would force male seaman on her ship into being sexual bondage slaves or something like that

And sometimes for some very good reasons. The "Inappropriate Relationships" tag is generally a buzzword for having sex or trying to have sex with subordinates. It can also mean that a superior is entering into some sort of business venture with a subordinate. Either way, there's an obvious conflict of interest.

The reason in this case is the mishandling of classified documents. This is a very big deal no matter what the circumstances are, but especially with a ballistic missile submarine which can carry nearly 200 hydrogen bombs in it's missiles.
