Navy: Cruiser CO relieved for ‘cruelty’

The commanding officer of the Yokosuka, Japan-based cruiser Cowpens was relieved of duty Wednesday after being punished for “cruelty and maltreatment” during her time in charge, the Navy announced. In an unusual move, she is being permitted to continue on to an assignment in the Pentagon.

Coast Guard selects new enlisted leaders

Weapons station CO fired, charged with solicitation
quote:

The commanding officer of Naval Weapons Station Charleston, S.C., was arrested Tuesday and accused of trying to pay a prostitute $20 for oral sex, police said.

Capt. Glen Little, 55, was immediately relieved of command and reassigned to administrative duties with Navy Region Southeast, said Scott Bassett, a spokesman for the Navy base.

Lincoln Strike Group Changes Command

During the ceremony, Rear Adm. Mark D. Guadagnini relieved Rear Adm. Scott Swift as Carrier Strike Group 9 commander.

F-35 chief fired, money withheld from Lockheed

Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Monday fired the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program manager, saying someone must be held accountable for the program’s delays and cost overruns.

News of the dismissal of Marine Corps Maj. Gen. David R. Heinz came at the beginning of a media briefing about the fiscal 2011 defense budget, released a short time earlier.

Naval Support Activity North Potomac CO fired
quote:

The commanding officer of Naval Support Activity North Potomac was fired for a loss of confidence in his ability to command following non-judicial punishment Friday.

Rear Adm. Patrick Lorge, commandant of Naval District Washington, received a complaint regarding Cmdr. Scott Merritt on Nov. 23, according to Janet Mescus, a spokeswoman for the district. The allegations were substantiated in a subsequent investigation, which led to the dismissal.

Coast Guard station commander relieved of duty

Deal reached in trial of Coast Guard O-6

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – A senior Coast Guard commander accused of having inappropriate relationships with staff members has been demoted.

Capt. Herbert M. Hamilton III will retire on July 1 as a lieutenant with a general discharge rather than undergoing a court-martial, the Coast Guard said Friday.
