Has anyone heard of the Historic Travels guy on YouTube? Not to hate on the guy btw, just trying to explain what/who he is. He's, aright, I guess, and praised for being a great Titanic commentator, the only issues I can find are:
- that he regurgitates known information and presents it as
-Uses and Believes the Titanic: Honor and Glory 2016 real time although having been told many times it is inaccurate
-makes numerous errors.

For example, has said he believes a Boiler explosion has taken place, Titanic never recovered from her portlist, the Second Funnel falls by 2:15, and Thomas Andrews and Captain Smith jump overboard together, all of which are not true.

On the otherside, I'd say he's a good starting point for newly minted Titanic Enthusiasts

Just started watching him actually. Like you said it was quite odd hearing about the his beliefs in the boiler explosion or basically everything else that you wrote, but he's good at presenting the info and explaining it so he's alright.
 
Hi, I've been following him for a while. I've watched almost all of his videos. I find his way of explaining clear and interesting. He takes informations from some books and from videos and documentaries.
What I like about Historic travel is that it often leaves the benefit of the doubt. That is, he doesn't say: "That's the way things are. Period."
Of course, there are some things he explained that didn't quite convince me. The thing that Titanic never recovered from her portlist is based from a video of Part Time Explorer, who did some research and came to this possible conclusion.
One thing that didn't convince me is that Titanic would broke in several parts (3-4 parts instead of broke in half). This hypothesis too is taken from the reserach carried out by Part Time Explorer.

Hello, and Welcome Aboard to the message board!

Actually, he got this correct. If you want I can explain in further detail, but there are two other big "chunks" of Titanic
 
His presentation style is great. I would not say that I agree with some of what he presents and it is clear that most of what he presents is not from 1st hand research but the writings, opinions, and content of others, which is not bad, but for someone who knows the data it's recycled knowledge and it doesn't allow for critical thinking. I think it's more about getting videos out rather than making sure the information is accurate. I tried to reach out once, but got no response which is fine, I was one of hundreds of posts. Good for him though, I love his passion and his readiness to share Titanic's story. He's doing something I always thought would be cool to do but I just haven't, so that says a lot! Overall, he paints the story in broad strokes, but if you want details one may have to do some research.

Cam, you mentioned that it is no longer believed that Smith and Andrews did not jump over board together. I was not aware of this new belief (or perhaps I heard & it didn't "sink" in), could you direct me to this knowledge please? Thanks!
 
That's a new one on me too. I never read that Smith and Andrews jumped overboard together. I've read different accounts of them jumping overboard but never together. But I always dismissed them jumping overboard as just made up stories.

Hi Brad!

It is believed Captain Smith jumped overboard when the bridge began to flood, and Thomas Andrews ran aft, then jumped overboard, around the Raised Roof of the Lounge I think

I got the information from me studying the wrecksite, something I love to do all the time

The two other chunks are called the "Tower debris", the Forward Tower, which consists of the Third Funnel uptake and surrounding cabins/rooms down to E-Deck, and the Aft tower, which consists of the Engine Uptake/skylight/catwalks, and has the portside of A, B, And C-Deck, and the center. The Aft tower lies infront of the Stern, maybe 200-300 feet. I have additional pictures in which I can link some threads to you of where I've sent most of the pictures, of dm you them, of both towers, and Galley :)

technically, she is in 5 pieces, because of the Galley debris, which has the galley from D-Deck, a section of E-Deck, and the Third Class galley, aft of the Third Class Dining Saloon

I studied the wrecksite too. I think it's also possible that during the first break in half, other cracks / weak points could have been created and that during the sinking they detached when Titanic had already slipped under the surface of the ocean.

I agree, and anytime! :)
Personally, I think the Aft tower stayed with the stern at first, because:
1. survivors would see that a huge chunk of the Boat Deck to C-Deck was missing
2. Its closer to the Stern
 
He asked me to help provide CGI for a video he was wanting to do, and I haven't heard back from him in 2 months. Probably pretty busy.

That being said with the "regurgitation" comments, it's hard to not do that. You can tweak your wording a bit but overall you're always going to be repeating what someone else said. Unless you are best friends with a historian who can tell you juicy details about stuff that is hidden behind NDA's or "soon to be released in an upcoming book".
 
I love his channel. He presents his views as his views, and not only does he explain that certain things cannot be verified, from what I've seen, if he is able, he goes to the extent of showing why certain things cannot be verified.

I have loved his channel since around 10K Subs and have learned a lot from him and we all make mistakes especially in the world of Titanic and I hate to argue but I think we should not nit pick every thing he has gotten wrong. And like you said lets not be rude to the guy.
