Hi,

does anyone know how many Steam Engines Titanic had on board in total and could anyone list them?

We all know about the 2 Four Cylinder main Steam Engines but there were Engines for the Rudder, Electric Generators, Pumps and many other things.

Regards Andy

Haven't got time to do a proper count but to get us started and maybe some other members can fill in the blanks...

Main Engines x2
Turbine engine x1
Main dynamos x4
Emergency dynamos x2
Steering engines x2
Refrigeration engines x2
Main condenser circulating pumps x4
Main condenser condensate and air pumps x2
Auxiliary condenser circulating pump x1
Auxiliary condenser condensate and air pump x1
Hotwell pumps x4
Ballast pumps x?
Ash ejectors x?
Feedwater pumps x?
Salt water pumps x?
Fresh water pumps x?
Steam powered Deck winches x?

I'm sure I've missed some others as well.

As for steam engines? Yes I think Rancor has got it right 13 steam engines. Not all used at the same time. Like the emergency dynamos on stand by. Only one steering gear engine used. Second one backup.
As for pumps that could be a long listed as Rancor has covered the main ones. However whether a winch is classified as a pump or stream engines as some do have piston in. There is also electric winches on the ship to. But still requires a steam engine to generator the electricity!
