In defense of James Cameron's Titanic movie

All right. I guess I can if I have too.

Jack Thayer hmmm. Lets start with him.

Carrie Fisher as Molly Brown?

Okay - as long as she still sports her Danish Pastry hair do from Star Wars..."the dark side is strong with you, Hitchens"

BTW, Alec Guinness would have made a fantastic Captain Smith.

Natalie Portman never did it for me.

Now...Seven of Nine as the Countess...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...she could assimilate me any day.

Just imagine if Jack & Rose had been played by Hayden Christensen & Natalie Portman of the Star Wars prequel films (at their current age)
Natalie might have made a convincing Rose- but the miscast Hayden-the young 'Darth Vader', would have turned Jack into an unbelievable, one dimensional wooden character...

I think Kate winslet and Leo DiCaprio did a great job with the script they were presented-

Rickman, at 61, is too old for the part. I'd cast Jason Isaacs, instead.

Well, Cameron's crew hired Victor Garber as Andrews, and he was clearly too old for the part. Liam Neeson might be too old for the part of Andrews as well.

Remember: Thomas Andrews was 38 at the time (Damn, that's younger than I am!)

Victor Garber was a good choice, even if he was a bit old..Now whenever I see him in a film or tv role-I can't help but think of Thomas Andrews..The actor who played Thomas Andrews in 'A Night To Remember' was excellent-yet oddly he spoke with an English accent, rather than an Irish accent.
I saw the Titanic musical on Broadway in NYC in 1998- and the actor who played Andrews was totally bald- It was a bit unsettling..

Unfortunately, you'll need a medium or a Oujia Board to get a hold of him. Now having said that, perhaps this chain of specualtion would be best continued in the Polls and Opinions thread started for that purpose.

Good point.
Subect drift is like continental drift- it sometimes happens without even noticing it...

Its not how old you are Mark but how old you look. I'm to old for Jack Thayer (10 years too old} but if I look young enough.
