Does anyone know if families of victims received compensation. Tired of googling and finding nothing, thought someone might know where I can find the info? Kind regards, Julie x

Under the terms of the Workman's Compensation Act of 1906 the White Star Line were obliged to pay compensation to the dependents of lost crew members. They typically offered around £100 (£6000 in terms of modern spending power, and the equivalent back then of 2 years' wages) to the family of a steward, for instance, but some dependents demanded more and the Courts were often sympathetic. For further references see here: COMPENSATION : RMS Titanic and related articles, stories, links

A great deal of money also was subscribed voluntarily to the Titanic Relief Fund, from which the dependents of many victims received often substantial and long-term assistance.

People claimed for lost property that went down with the ship. William Carter owned the car that was in the cargo hold and claimed $5000 when it went down with the ship.
