Interesting scene in A Night to Remember

Hey I've watched A Night to Remember and a scene caught to my eyes.

When you watch the movie on youtube, at 43:40 there's a scene that show one of Californian's officer listening to Evans's "earphone".

Is there any truth to this or it's just a made up scene to show that Cyril Evans was asleep and the ship couldn't help the Titanic?

Yes, there is some truth to the scene except two things.
· 1 Third officer Groves woke wireless operator Evans up to ask what ships were nearby.
· 2 Groves didn’t hear anything
On the 15th of May 1912 he testified at the British inquiry:
8271.Mr. RowlandYou went off the bridge?
Third officer Groves- Yes.
8272.Mr. RowlandWhere did you go?
Third officer GrovesThe Marconi house.
8273.Mr. RowlandIs the Marconi operator, Mr. Evans?
Third officer Groves- Yes.
8274.Mr. RowlandDid you find him there?
Third officer Groves- I did.
8275.Mr. RowlandWas he asleep?
Third officer Groves- He was asleep.
8276.Mr. RowlandHe had gone to bed?
Third officer Groves- He had gone to bed, yes.
8277.Mr. RowlandDid you wake him up?
Third officer Groves- Yes.
8278.Mr. RowlandAnd have some conversation with him?
Third officer Groves- Yes.
8279.Mr. RowlandWhat passed?
Third officer Groves- The only thing I remember asking him was "What ships have you got, Sparks?"
8280.Mr. Rowland"Sparks"?
Third officer Groves- Yes.
8281.Mr. RowlandIs that his name?
Third officer Groves- No, it is the name he gets on the ship.
Lord MerseySeeing he is the operator, you know why he is called "Sparks."
8282.Mr. RowlandYou asked him what ships he had got. What did he say?
Third officer Groves- Only the "Titanic."
8283.Mr. RowlandDid you take his instruments and put them to your ears?
Third officer Groves- Yes.
8284.Mr. RowlandCould you read a message if you heard one?
Third officer Groves- If it is sent slowly - yes.
8285.Mr. RowlandDid you hear anything?
Third officer Groves- Nothing at all.
8286.Mr. RowlandHow long did you listen?
Third officer Groves- I do not suppose it would be more than 15 seconds at the outside - well, 15 to 30 seconds. I did it almost mechanically.
8287.Mr. RowlandDid you do anything more before you turned in?
Third officer Groves- I may have said a few more words to him, but I have no recollection, but when I left his house I went straight to my cabin.
8288.Mr. RowlandAnd went to bed?
Third officer Groves- And went to bed.
Seems instead of the usual combining two moments into one scene, it seems that they split one moment over two different scenes.
