For anyone in the South Carolina area, I would like to pass this info out. A replica of the so-called "coffin ships" that brought an estimated 1.5 million Irish to North America during the potato famine of the 1840's is heading to the SC coast. The Jeanie Johnson will stop in May during a six month tour of the East Coast as part of its maiden voyage. The three masted 123 foot bark is a replica of the famine boats nicknamed "coffin ships' because conditions on board were so bleak. The real Jeanie Johnson never lost a passenger in 16 voages during seven years. This information came from the Charlotte Observer
