My great great great uncle was William Thomas Stead, a first class passenger. He was on his way to a peace conference, invited by the President of the US!!

My wife Elsie Brophy, nee Doling, is the granddaughter of Ada Julia Doling, travelling 2nd. class with her sister-in-law Elsie Doling. They can be seen in the picture of three people strolling on deck. Ada, Elsie and Edwin Charles Wheeler (known as Fred), Vanderbilts' valet.

Are you speaking of the Father Browne photo? I think people have been scratching their heads for 91 years trying to determine the identity of those people! Can you post it here with a caption from left to right?

To Kryla Scully: Really do not know who took the photo. It is usually available anywhere Titanic photos are published. The people would be, left to right, Ada's sister-in-law Elsie Doling (19 at the time I bekieve), Mrs. John T. Doling (Ada), and Edwin Charles Wheeler AKA "Fred".
My wife's great uncle was employed by the Vanderbilts so it would seem logical that the valet "Fred" would have been asked to escort the two ladies on board. Would love to send pictures but my new XP computer is thwarting my attempts.
Hope this helps. Also see Archive thru Jan. 29, 2003. Tues. Jan.28,2003 my first posting.

Sounds like the picture taken in Queenstown by a photographer from the Cork Examiner. See Eaton & Haas, p106.

Maria,

If you look at John's: Encyclopedia Titanica Biography and his Summary; there is no indication that John and his wife [they were married in January 1911] had any children, so you can conclude that it is not likely.

As I understand it there were only three Bourkes on the Titanic, all 3rd class. They were John, Catherine and Mary. All from my own parish in
Ireland. John and Catherine were married, Mary was John's sister; all perished. John & Mary had no children, although local oral history has it that Catherine was pregnant. Lester is right.

Here is our local site

Sorry cannot be of any more help.

It's great that so many people here are connected with Titanic passengers/crew!

Some months ago I believe I am related with third class class passenger Katie Peters (my maternal grandmother's maiden name was Peters) but I have discovered that this wasn't true

Same Laura. then again i guess you can look at it this way:
Would you really want a relative of yours to die in or witness a terrible tragedy like that?
