Jack Phillips

Re: Phillips John George
Absolutely lovely to see all these extraordinary artefacts! My great grandmother was engaged to be married to jack phillips on his return from Titanic's maiden voyage. He never returned and she -Kitty- carried on wearing his deiamond solitaire engagement ring for many years untill my grandfather persuaded her to remove it. She gave the ring to my grandmother who some years later was in a rowing boat on Windermere when the ring mysteriously slipped off her finger and sank to the bottom of the lake.

can you maybe writte me back. thank you

Thank you for coming up with this new info. Have you or your family any photos, newspaper cuttings or other mementos on Jack Phillips (with or without Kitty)?

Tony

Yesterday I saw on the Internet a very interesting story about Roberta Maioni and Jack Phillips. Elizabeth Kaye has written a book, “Lifeboat No.8”, where she introduces a story which is rather interesting and at the same time extremely strange. Aboard the magnificent Titanic, Roberta Maioni meets Jack Phillips and a budding romance is born between them. During the night of the sinking Roberta as she escapes Titanic she retrieves a photo of Jack which it was given to her by him. Of course the book recalls and other stories of Titanic passengers, but this particular story intrigued me. What is your opinion? Do you think that this story is true ? Or is just a rumour?

It's utter drivel made up for a work of drippy romantic pulp fiction.

There is no evidence of it at all. Because it simply didn't happen. It's all a figment of Ms Kaye's imagination.

Thank you for your reply. I suspected that this story was plain imagination.

Wasn't familiar with the book so I looked it up. When I first read Fini's question I thought fan fiction story. But on the websites that are selling it none of them list it as fiction. But that doesn't mean a lot of it isn't made up. It's getting harder to tell these days. So many things you think have to be from the "Onion" or the "Babylon Bee" turn out to be real news items. Can't take anything at face value today regarding parody. Cheers.
