Titanic's 30 ft. main lifeboats were lowered by attaching the davit fall block to what I have been told were Murray's patent quick release boat hooks. Rather than being just a hook from which the fall block would have to be manually removed, these had a hinged hook which could be released and thereby uncoupled from the fall block. I have studied photos trying to get a good look at one but I can only see a partial view. It appears that the 25 ft. cutters had a different design for their hooks. I have been searching in vain for some photo or patent illustration of these hooks for the 30 ft. boats.
Does anyone have any knowledge of these hooks?
