Lowe and Lifeboat 14’s Return to Other Boats

Hello All,

I must say the information here is amazing and I thank the veterans for all their insight!! Also, apologies if this is already addressed elsewhere as I searched and could not find anything:

I’ve often wondered something, after Lowe and 14 picked up who they could from the wreck site did they return to the flotilla?? If so is there any record of that return encounter? I’m aware he picked up and towed those in collapsables but did 14 then reunite with the group they left?? I’d imagine many in the boats had hopes of a love one coming back with Lowe and company. Should I assume 14 never returned to the larger group until they were picked up??

Thanks so much for any information.

Good day to you,

The lifeboat group in question prior to fifth officer Lowe his return were lifeboat number 14 (the lifeboat under fifth officer Lowe his command), lifeboat number 12, lifeboat number 10, lifeboat number 4 and collapsible Engelhardt lifeboat D.

It appears that lifeboat number 14 only had a rendez-vous with collapsible Engelhardt lifeboat D after the rescue, which looked rather sorry according to fifth officer Lowe, so he thought, "Well, I will go down and pick her up and make sure of her."

Lifeboat number 14 and collapsible Engelhardt lifeboat D were the first lifeboats of the flotilla to arrive to the Carpathia at around 7:15.

Lifeboat number 4 arrived at around 8 o'clock along with lifeboat number 10 (which is quite an interesting coincidence since it is believed they were lowered away from the Titanic at the same time, which was 1:50), lifeboat number 6 arrived at the Carpathia at the same time.

Lifeboat number 12 was the last lifeboat to arrive at the Carpathia at about 8:15. Number 12 had the occupants of upturned collapsible Engelhardt lifeboat B on-board, including second officer Lightoller.

I hope this might helps you Aaron,

Kind regards,

Thomas

Nice for catching the slight breeze which picked up at dawn and perhaps assisted her early arrival at the Carpathia?
Yes, Lowe stated at the US Inquiry when in the direction of the Carpathia "I was going through the water very nicely, going at about, well, I should say, four knots, five knots, maybe; it may have been a little more; it may have been six; but, anyhow, I was bowling along very nicely."
