Lusitania in MS Paint

Greetings to all ET members,

I thought I would take this time to show you my drawing of the Lusitania that I did using Microsoft paint. Primitive I know, but my freehand skills aren't what they used to be.

I know it's not 100% accurate, but I did the best I could with the sources available to me.

James,

Very nice work; Paint is not an easy program to work with, either! I particularly like the funnel color you chose for the 1907 version. Thanks for sharing this with us, and take care!

Hi James,

very nice indeed. Nice funnel color - even better with the slight shadows of the rigging. The little touches - the canvas color on the lifeboats, the color of the whistles and the slight pale blue on the glass - very nice. What about the running light?

Best,
Eric Longo

You're too kind gentlemen. I looked up information about the correct funnel colors on the TRMA forums. I also have drawn the ship as she looked on 07/05/15, but I will have to go back to that one and modify so it will look good compared to my pre-war version. I'm glad my shading attempt is a success. I added that as an afterthought.

If I can, I might consider drawing the U-20 as well.

Hi, James. I saw your May 7th rendering. Also excellent...but, to keep it accurate, place the name back on the bow, add stacked collapsibles beneath the boats, and do the funnels in a shade somewhere between gunmetal and black. The latter is a compromise, I'll admit, but it tactfully straddles the fence in the "Black or grey" debate. BTW- Great MST3K quote on your homepage.

Thank you for the heads up Jim. The name is on the bows but is hidden under a shade of dark grey (almost matching the hull color to give that painted over look). Adding collapsibles and changing the funnel color is on the top of my "to do list".

>(almost matching the hull color to give that painted over look).

As of April 25th, 1915, it wasn't painted over. Mike has bow-to-stern unpublished taken on that date, and the name is clearly visible. It MAY have been subsequently painted over, but the last unquestionable, dated, evidence shows that the name was as it always was.

excellent work James, I look forward to seeing the 1915 version.

below is the german text for your Kapitan Lindemann quote...

Dear James
I made some small modifications to your drawing, and I also created the RMS Mauretania, both in Cunard and Hospital Ship appearance. If you give me the permission I will post the links!

Congratulations for your skills!

RMS Lusitania. Trial paintscheme (my favourite).
Did only minor changes and added the hull under waterline. All credits for the drawing must go to James Martindale and his wonderful model.
