I was searching the web today and came arose this. From what I can see it looks like it will be big, this auction house seems to deal with big ticket items. Does anyone know who is selling of there collections. I will be defiantly in New York in June to see the outcome of this one. Here is the link for the site

This is the reply I have got from them:

Thank you for your inquiry about our exciting upcoming auction focusing on
the Titanic and other historic ocean liners. Although scheduling details
have not yet been finalized, we expect to hold this extraordinary auction in
June of this year. Once the exact date and location are determined, we will
be posting this information, along with further updates about the event, on
our website.

Guernsey¹s will be preparing a comprehensive auction catalogue, fully
illustrating the remarkable collection of artifacts to be offered in this
important sale. The catalogue should be available approximately one month
prior to the auction, and information as to how to order the catalogue will
included on the website as well.

We look forward to sharing additional information about our Titanic auction
with you, and thank you again for contacting us.

This auction will be hardcore, as there will be grand staircase paneling, a nameplate from a lifeboat, stationary from some of the first class rooms bearing Titanic's name, etc, etc, etc..
.....I just cant wait to get the catalog, that in itself will be collectable..

regards

Tarn

Hey Gary,

I am going to try my hardest to be there, I will be in NYC for the General Slocum Anniversary the week after the auction, so maybe I will come early, as for the dinner thing on June 9th, that sounds great! I am so excited to see some of the things for sale, maybe ther will be something in my price range ($10) lol. Thanks for the email

I'll be there if I have to WALK! Boy, talk about exciting! And I'm glad to see there will be some things I can afford - this will be the beginning of collecting for me.

Wild boars couldn't keep me away from this auction! I am also planning on attending the preview on the 9th. Sounds like it will be a great time.

South Street Seaport - hang spot for the NY gang! Hmmm...if I can't make it myself, might get a mate to put in a proxy bid or two. Ro? Mark? Pat? You planning on popping around?

I don't know what I'm doing tomorrow, let alone in June, Ing.

;-)

I am, though, going to try to get there. Sounds like an interesting day. There aren't any further details on the web site (at least as of yesterday), but I'm keeping tabs on it and plan on getting a catalog when it's available.

Sounds familiar MAB - I haven't begun to finalise my international travel plans for the year. Another June visit to NY with you lot would be good fun - although I can't do it as a long weekend from London any more!

I'll see how it develops...I'm not as religious an auction watcher as some (Senan Molony and Brian Hawley's careful note of every BTS auction price and associated comments spring to mind), but I have seen the odd item go up that I've kicked myself for not putting a paddle up for later.

And then there was the trip to the Hilton Bar when I got caught socialising when a certain auction item came up that I had intended to bid on for a friend...

Hi, Ing

Yes, I expect to go and look. Looking is free, and the nice thing about an auction is that you can get a better look at the stuff than you can at a museum.

Good stuff, Pat! If I don't make it, I know that you've got a good idea of what items interest me and can give a good report...I'm not really motivated by a need to own items, but I do like the data they can represent. I'd rather have a copy of an information-rich letter or photo than an original item that tells us less. Of course, artifacts often tell their own story - they can inform us without words.

Just wanted to let you all know that the
Titanic auction at the South Street Seaport on
June 10 will be promoted on "GOOD MORNING
AMERICA" this coming Wednesday, May 12
7am--9am Eastern Time on ABC. The president
of Guernsey's, Inc. who will conduct the sale
will be on the show discussing the auction and
showing a preview of some of the artifacts to
be sold. Also, I've been told that the auction
will be discussed and taped interviews with
Guernsey's staff will be shown during the
June 7 National Geographic special on Ballard's
return to the wrecksite. That show airs at
9pm Eastern Time. VCR-ALERT! ;)
