All crew of Roro ship stranded off Batangas rescued by Coast Guard

MANILA, Philippines–All 21, not 20 as earlier reported, crew members and other personnel on board the distressed roll-in/roll-out (Roro) vessel MV Lolo Uwing that got stranded at sea some 8.5 nautical miles south of Loco Loco Point, San Juan, Batangas, have been rescued by a helicopter, the Philippine Coast Guard said in an advisory released 8:30 pm Friday.

Coast Guard releases report on sinking of Alaska Ranger
quote:

WASHINGTON – The Coast Guard released Wednesday its final report of the investigation into the March 23, 2008, sinking of the fish-processing vessel Alaska Ranger and the subsequent loss of five of the 47 people aboard the ship.

The Alaska Ranger sank approximately 130 miles west of Dutch Harbor, Alaska. Of the 47 people aboard, 42 were rescued, four deceased crewmembers were recovered and one remains missing and is presumed dead.

A ship carrying a reported 263 migrants has sunk west of the island of Corfu and 22 passengers are missing, Greek coastguards said today.

Coastguards said they were alerted last night by a passenger on the Hasan Reis, which was ferrying a reported 263 Afghan illegal immigrants towards Italy.
High winds prevented rescue boats immediately taking to the water.

MUMBAI: A cargo ship ran into a coral reef off the Kavaratti Island in Lakshadweep, damaging around 400 square metres of the pristine reef that's home to thousands of marine species. The latest environmental damage on Sunday came eight days after two container vessels collided off Mumbai and caused an oil spill and serious damage to the mangroves and marine life.
