Midnight Snacks

Hello all,
I hope you are having a nice night. Well I am starting this thread because I was wondering something.

Imagine This: You are a passenger on the Titanic and you wake up in the middle of the night. Your stomach is empty so u look for a snack. Where to look!

I was wondering if any of you know what someone would do in this case or if they would be able to do anything in this case.

Thanks all.

Hi Sahand,

If you look at the deck plans [and here I have 1st Class in mind]; there are small rooms marked Pantry. As to whether passengers could go and help themselves to a snack or had to call a steward I do not know. - Perhaps someone else can answer that question.

Supper trays would be placed in staterooms as a matter of routine if requested

Otherwise there would be a night steward on duty to take care of out-of-hours food and drink service.

Bear in mind that in 1912 and thereabouts the 'upper classes' were much more circumspect as to domestic routine than later generations. It was considered 'bad form' to mess the servants about too much.

Thanks Kelly, appreciate that

Jeremy,

No they weren't. The kitchens were often operating at wee hours of the morning, preparing bread for the next morning, but the passenger dining facilities did not operate at all hours of the day.

Daniel.

If a 1st class passenger was feeling peckish at 3am, would they be able to call for room service? If so- what was available?
I assume this perk was available ONLY in first class....
