Great items! Are these original do you know by chance? I know there have been a TON of repros of that same WSL brochure made, if it is authentic you have a great piece of history there!

Question? Olympic received extra life boats after her twin sank (Titanic).(Titanic)only deploying 16 life boats out of the 20 she had.
For all of Olympic's life boats and extra life boats to be deployed safely in the same situation and only having 2 hrs and 40 mins, would not Olympic need more crew and up dated technolghy?

You can't just stack a whole lot of life boats aboard and think that the problem is solved!
Is that the case with the Olympic?

Well, they did more then just stack a bunch of lifeboats. The extended her double skin, also. But your right, Titanic nearly had enough time to load all her lifeboats. If the Olympic, or for that matter any ship even now, were to sink in two hours and forty minutes with out enough crew to load and release several boats at once, the amount of lifeboats would not really matter by much.

>>You can't just stack a whole lot of life boats aboard and think that the problem is solved! <<

And it really wasn't, but it sure looked good in the newspapers and was reassuring to the public.

An aside: In regards to my aforemention, the snapshot of Olympic a second-hand store owner gave to me can be seen at Brian Hawley's site noted above, fifth down on the right. Fountain penned on the reverse is 'Ship at Southampton'. And, albeit Brian had to trade to me a *rare* RP card of Olympic at the floating drydock, I think we were both satisfied with the outcome.
BTW, Mr. Hawley has some great pieces avaialable on his luxury liner site!
