New and Improved Titanic Memorable Lines and Trivia

The Fizzies are YOURS- am holding out for the other two answers till 8 p.m. and feeling slightly smug that the steam-rolling Texan at LAST hit a roadblock! Just for fun and just for us "oldsters"- remember back to 1956- a weekly series set on an ocean liner with regular cast- a captain and his daughter onboard- a sort of pre Love Boat programme. The setting was a showcase really for the daughter. This is a KILLER and you WILL win the 1971 orange Pinto (oh please tow it away! AND the snow tire chains thrown in!)

Well, here I'm a bit confused - or else I'm thinking totally wrong on this one. I DO remember "The Gale Storm Show" which initially called "Oh, Suzanna" about her on a steam ship having to answer to Roy Roberts as Captain but he wasn't her father. ALSO, Storm starred in another show about a daughter and father entitled "My Little Margie" but in this one, the father ran a sort of country club.

Or is there another show you're referring to?

Best regards,
Cook

OK- I AM resigning as Trivia Queen- YOU are the bee's knees, the cat's pajamas ,le dernier cri and Astor's pet pup! Yes, it was The Gale Storm Show- I thought the captain was her pappy. (But of course I was in diapers at the time-sure..well,NEARLY-well,ok-FIRST GRADE!)GALE STORM-sounds like a hurricane-a nice nautically moniker- kinda like Sandy Bottom.Well- STILL waiting for Part 2 and 3 of the previous poser- SO THERE! Bring on YOUR BIG GUNS there podner-meet me at the OK Corral- HIGH NOON.

Hi, Shelley,
I'm ordinarily quite a "trivial" person :-), but have been having trouble catching up with this motley crew. Let me take a try at the ship, tho: was it the "Ile de France"?

As for you, Boris -- I hardly need tell my "alter-ego" that I, too, am a murder mystery fan and adore Peter Falk -- and Vincent Price, too (remember "The Bat"?) But then, you already know that... :-)

Regards to all -- Susan, Countess M.

P.S. Speaking of "old salts" -- if you should HAPPEN to obtain the video of the "Howdy Doody Show" for April 4, 1957 and see a little girl sitting next to Buffalo Bob... :-)

Countess- good to see you! Yes I am a RABID mystery fan- make sure to read The False Inspector Dew by Peter Lovesey- The Montrose and Crippen business! Yes- twas the lovely Ile de France- France was appalled to see what the moviemakers did to their beloved (they are VERY sentimental about ships). She was on her way to the breakers and the studio saw the chance to use her cheap for one last hurrah-without mentioning the part about blowing up her funnels and partially scuttling her at sea. She was the grand old gal to the rescue for Andrea Doria-and with 3 funnels I found her very graceful. Good job! Now when can I expect the tow truck for the 71 Pinto!! The ship featured in Dial M for Murder- the QUEEN MARY. Tomorrow's trivia bit?- An Affair to Remember has been made 3 times aboard 3 different ships- name the two leads in all 3 versions! Am dreaming up a GRAND PRIZE for this one.

Quick Answer, if my memory serves me.

First Version - Charles Boyer and Irene Dunne

Second Version - Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr

Third Version - Warren Beatty and Annette Benning.

Actually, I just saw the first AND second versions recently on AMC.

These are my best guesses. Not all that sure about the last one.

Best regards,
Cook

CookieMonster! You are the LIMIT! Kudos to you AGAIN- the Prize Mobile will be coming to YOUR house tomorrow (towing an orange Pinto with snowchains). Yes Yes Yes on all three- the last Beattie-Benning was called "Love Affair" and began on a plane but continued on a ship. Am speechless. I just watched all three recently-hey, anything with a funnel! The Grant-Kerr was just on AMC this morning by coincidence. Look out now- my velvet gloves are coming off- tomorrow night if nobody ELSE posts a poser- (hint hint)-the real TUFF STUFF is coming out of the vault!

Now Dan- if I give the REALLY good stuff out right away- nobody would stick around and we have had about 120 hits in the last two weeks on this thread. Am looking for MORE Trivia Monarchs out there! I want to WIN a faboo prize like cherry Fizzies too! OK- TONIGHT- something for the BRITS- Name the Agatha Christie character and the actress who played her in a murder-at-sea comedy made I would guess in the early 60's- black and white- British production and the TITLE of same. If you actually watched all of this -you deserve a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.

Too Rich for y'all huh? Ok faint-hearted-one for the road- Jeremy Irons and Diana Quick's secret tryst occured on what great liner in a series on American PBS -a British production. Can you name the series and the episode? It was a BIG hit on both sides of the ocean... and so to bed. Back tomorrow with the answer to above -that is unless Capt. Cook stirs from his slumber and dazzles us with quick repartee!

Don't know how much dazzling Capt. Cook can do here but I'll take a whack at it. In fact, Miss Bonnie and I were JUST discussing that we are both great Christie fans (more Poirot myself). If I remember correctly, (to answer your first question) the Christie character you're referring to is Miss Jane Marple, played by the wonderful character actress Margaret Rutherford. I'm guessing a bit. The movie she starred in was "Murder Ahoy" - not at all sure on that one - I believe Rutherford made about 6 of these in the series.

And, just a wild shot at your second question but was the Irons/Quick vehicle "Brideshead Revisited"? It's the only PBS I can remember Irons in. And I haven't a clue as to which episode this would've been. I'm still trying to get Gale Storm out of my mind from your earlier question!

I haven't done this much remembering since my last high school reunion!

Best regards,
Cook

I knew you would come riding over the hill with your posse! Well Bless My Buttons- It IS indeed Miss Marple in the guise of Margaret Rutherford in Murder Ahoy ( a forgettable IMHO flick). Yes- I am MAD for Christie-and David Suchet IS Hercule Poirot!Murder at the Gallop was another of those attempts in the same line. "Orphans of the Storm"- which I think was Episode 13- Brideshead Revisited -and the SHIP? Aha -forgot that part- The Good Old Queen Mary- who was for once actually in the correct era for the film. I have run out of accolades for you Mon Capitain! Shall we start another thread or HAVE YOU ALL HAD ENOUGH TRIVIA??? As Beverly Sills once said to me- "Always leave when the fans say regretfully-so soon? Rather than -Is that woman NEVER going to SHUT UP?"! I await your command...TQ of the U.

Well, throw me naked into a pine tree...no Reese's peanut butter cups until later? Shelley, with all this 'abuse' and 'mental anguish' of this trivia thread, I should have a 4-pack of cups *now*!!

D

Ouch- NAKED !or as we say down South "Neckit?" I don't see YOU volunteering an answer you secret LURKER-you! Here, redeem yourself before we close this thread. Who says: "Out-trumped- never send the baby to buy the beer"- character, actress, circumstances AND movie. Prize? One bag of MINI peanut buttah cups ,son.

Shelley, I'm gonna have to give ya a big 'duuuhhhh, don' noe' on that one.
Toss the bag of cups in the freezer, and hopefully I can have that 'second chance' card on the next go-around. Hoo-hah!

Dan
