Mr. Layton, over on the TRMA board you asked for some old nautical charts. A good source is the US NOAA administration. The historical map overview page is http://chartmaker.ncd.noaa.gov/csdl/ctp/abstract.htm
From there the image catalogue link goes to http://historicals.ncd.noaa.gov/historicals/histmap.asp
I searched for region ‘New York’ + type ‘Nautical Chart’ and got about 30 pages (it unfortunately includes the inland waters).

If it is the Lower Bay you are looking for try chart 369. The closest I could find was 1902, mistakenly filed as year ‘0’. Also mistakenly under year “NA” is view CP3341C which is 1912, just right for our Titanic, the approximate date is in the compass deviation rose.

The downloads don’t actually save to your machine but if you install the viewer it will open them giving you better zoom, pan and print control. I have used the viewer for a few US gov’t sources and it has been fine. If you right click on the download number you can ‘save target as’ to keep the file for later display on the viewer.

A nice plus to having so many years available is that I noticed the Ambrose light vessel moved slightly between the early years and the 30’s, that’s info that can be hard to find.

Mr. West,

Thank you so much for providing me with these links. I found a message for me over on the TRMA board letting me know that this message was here for me. I'm going to spend a little time over there now to see what I can see.

Thank you again for your assistance.

You're welcome. Sorry about the Board glitch but I had seen you here a bit recently and after 4 hours of formatting and editing an Excel copy of those 30 pages I was hurrying too much to take the little side trip of registering at TRMA. Also the charts will be of interest for some long discussions here.

I haven’t looked for Liverpool but I did find part of a Southampton chart at http://www.pbenyon1.plus.com/Janes_1919/Charts/Solent.html It’s value is that it shows the correct Nab Light, it was moved shortly after.
