Word was received here yesterday of the death in Liverpool of John Rooney,
purser of the White Star liner Cedric and one of the best known officials in
the transatlantic service. Mr. Rooney had been connected with transatlantic
steamship companies for more than twenty years and since the war broke out
had repeatedly traversed the submarine infested waters around Great Britain
without mishap. Prior to entering the employ of the White Star Line he had
served on steamships of the Guion Line.
