I visited the Lambton Hounds Inn in the village of Pity Me in County Durham last weekend. Here is a photo of the bar from the Olympic:
The village of pity me itself appears post-industrial and quite bleak, however the stay at the Lambton Hounds offered excellent value for money with a very cosy en suite room. The people who owned and ran it were very friendly and gave excellent service and food. I'd recommend a stay there if you are ever in North-East England. The owners were also very interested to receive a copy of Gavin Murphy's Article Olympic Find at Pity Me.
They weren't sure where on the ship it came from and hadn't noticed any markings on it when it was installed in 1999. I think it unlikely that it was a 'cocktail' bar as cocktail bars weren't, to my knowledge, popular in 1911 but more likely to be from one of the small bar rooms off one of the predominently male public rooms, first or second class. They also told me that, like other things from the Olympic, it is incredibly heavy and they weren't even sure if the floor was going to be strong enough to support it!
The Market Tavern Inn in Alnwick, which is a short distance from the White Swan Hotel, also had a bar from the Olympic up until renovation in 1994. The manager of the pub told me that the then owners sold it to America.
Any ideas as to which room the Pity Me bar may have come from?
