Olympic fittings auction in Haltwhistle 4 September

Hi,

I've already made booking enquiries to one hotel in Haltwhistle and they are fully booked for that weekend. I'm not sure if it because of the auction or just because it's a good time of year to walk Hadrian's wall or something.

But anyway, it's a good excuse for some Ocean Liner enthusiasts to meet up in a small village in the middle of nowhere for a very special, once-in-a-life-time event. Ironically, the factory was mooted as being a potential Titanic convention venue from time to time but it never happened. The event that shall rule out the possibility of it in future could be a kind of mini-convention.

It would be nice to nominate a place in Haltwhistle to be a social hub in the evenings before and after the auction. A friend of mine is talking about staying at the White Swan Hotel in Alnwick, about an hour's drive away. His idea may be laudable, but I think Haltwhistle has its charms too and the factory has considerably more Olympic material than Alnwick has.

There's a pub I went to have my lunch in the main street after my last visit to the factory in April last year called the 'Centre of Britain'. It is the only pub in Haltwhistle I know of just now. Maybe Ray has some other suggestions with his local knowledge.

Do post on this thread if you are going to the auction.

Stuart
