On A Sea Of Glass Real Time Sinking Animation

Like Roy Mengot and the book On A Sea Of Glass the ship most likely did break into three or four pieces with the forward and aft tower breaking off from the stern as shown in the animation.
Personally, I think the Aft tower stayed with the stern, because if the Deckhouse debris was somehow flung southeast, then why is the (aft) Tower only a couple hundred feet north of the Stern?

I talked to Bill again. He said there is no Forward tower, it’s just the Deckhouse debris. Roy misnamed it. The Aft tower is pretty much just “the tower”.

It's possible the mid section the forward and aft towers were shattered to pieces and scattered everywhere on the sea floor due to the violent nature of the break up or due the the stern imploding.

both pieces sit together on their own. The "Forward" tower was misnamed, it doesn't sit up like the "aft" tower does. Another name for the Forward tower is the deckhouse debris, because it consists of the Third Funnel uptake of the Third Funnel down to E-Deck. Parks Stephenson himself called it a "Big ugly pile of junk." The (aft) Tower is called so because it sits up like a 3 story apartment building.

the Tower consists of the decking around the Engine Casing, i.e A-37, A-36, The Aft Grand Staircase, the Barber's Shop on C-Deck. I myself found a remaining piece of catwalk that was lying near the base of the tower, and Bill verified it.

Also the area on the stern wreck where the aft tower would be there big engines exposed.

You already explained the aft tower in another thread, sorry.

Eiffel built one, Babel had one London has one...the one in the movie burned down and submarines used one to con, but Titanic didn't have any. Nor had Olympic or any of the other "pics". To what am I referring?

Here’s a sped up version with different angles. Breakup angle looks pretty low from far away.

There is a magnificent stream coming from @Titanic Animations . Instead of rendering it they way H&G and Sea of Glass did, this guy actually uses the same programs Hollywood studios do. Just have a look at the trailer. Minor error with the royal seal on the Mailbag, but will be fixed. Enjoy.

That looks amazing! Great colors and textures. If a new real time sinking comes out of that team, I hope they revise their final plunge. It’s wildly unrealistic imo right now.

It will be much more historically accurate. I think the first video was just him getting acquinated with the software. This video will be much more detailed and accurate. It draws on survivor testimony so to include people at the location they testified they would be at, at the correct time.

If you look closely you can see Fleet and Lee in the Crows Nest, and Murdoch on the Bridge exactly where he was You can also see Wylde,I assume, with his subordonents above the forepeak on the forecastle. This will be the best video of the sinking, I am sure of it. Release I guess will be around August, September 2022. I think he said it takes rouyhly 3 hours to render 1 frame, and they are going for 25fps. He is even composing all the music from scratch so YT can't hit him with a copyright claim. As always it is best to watch in 4k.

Wishing you all a pleasant week,

James

I felt that the OASOG nimation was excellent. As far as Titanic Animations one is concerned, it would be premature to call if the "best video of the sinking" based on a clip lasting less than 2 minutes. One would ahve to wait to see the whole product before forming an opinion.

Speaking of 'historical accuracy, it was Chielf Officer Wilde, not 'Wylde' as far as I know but I am willing to be corrected.
I could not make out where and when Wilde was supposed to be seen in the video clip, but he was not on the Forecastle at the time of the collision. He was off-duty and most likely asleep in his cabin; but he appears to have been alerted early enough by the impact because he arrived at the foreacstle near where the anchor chain was stowed about 15 minutes later. That was where he met Hemming and Foley.

Trust me, when you have seen the full animation you will agree. As a paid subscriber I get access to extra content. And that really is nitpicking on the spelling of the COs name, you knew exactly who I meant. They uploaded another video today dealing with fluid dynamics in the wheelhouse--did OASOG even attempt internal flooding?

James, Arun is a genuinely nice bloke and was not trying to be mean, he was just pointing out a basic fact.

Something I could nitpick about the animation is this:

The ship should be much darker when she hits the berg.

The animators have the first and second class promenade decks fully lit up by electric lights at the time of the collision. This was not the case, the lights had been turned off about an hour or so before the collision and the lamp trimmer hung red lanterns at the public entrances.

Most of the passengers and a considerable amount of the crew were asleep (or trying to sleep) when the collision took place, so why so many cabin lights are on I don't know.

Also why would they have Wilde, Haines and Hemming on the fo'c'sle when their meeting (and hearing the air escaping from the forepeak tank) took place below deck ?

I nonetheless do look forward to the animation. I find it hard to believe that they will ever get round to completing "H&G" so this new project is interesting.

I think the software that was used in OASOG is a bit easier to view. The night sky and water contrast serves as a good backdrop to view the sinking. TA has the water as a smooth mirror which makes it a bit harder to see clearly. Not to say that he doesn’t put in a LOT of work for his content.

The OASAG animation mixes survivor testimony and forensic evidence to depict how the ship moved from iceberg to final plunge. It wasn’t about realistic water movements. Rather, there’s focus on the events of the passengers, crew, and movements of the ship.

The OASOG animation is actually completely separate and serves as a standalone project. Titanic: Honor and Glory still has their old animation to work on.
