Opening launch christening scene

At the beginning of the film, the Titanic's launch is seen with footage of the Queen Elizabeth's launch. It is also seen being christened with a bottle of champagne.

However, in real life, the Titanic was never christened at her launch.

Did producer William MacQuitty, who witnessed the actual launch of the Titanic on May 31, 1911, know that they didn't christen her in real life and just put it in the film for artistic license in order to make a grand opening sequence for the movie?
