Opium

My friend is trying to learn a few things about Titanic, and assures me there was Opium in the Hold. I don't think this is true. is it?

I don't recall whether it was on the manifest or not but it would hardly be that big a deal if it was. The stuff was perfectly legal back then.

And it's perfectly legal now, as a raw material for the pharmaceuticals industry. Yes, there were four cases of opium recorded in the cargo manifest. Hard to say how much that was, as the term 'case' was generic for containers or bundles of any size.
