I was wondering about how many oriental people were on the Titanic ? I understand there was at least one... I think he was from Japan and a very fascinating letter came to light a few years back about how he survived. Anyone know anything about this ?

Miles, there were in fact nine Asians on board. Eight were Chinese firemen who were going to join their ship in the US. The one you are thinking of was the Japanese Matsabumi Hosono.

There's a good deal about them on this site, including a thread on the Chinese in which a Chinese friend and I gave their correct names for the first time.
