Pantry man : Food or Wine ?

Hi Guys,

I should like to get something clear and I will need your help.

First of all, my first language is not English but French. And the dictionary tells that a "Pantry man" is the person who is responsible of the wine -- and of course a "Pantry" is a place where the wine is kept. But I read somewhere that it could be the place where the dry food (what doesn't need to be kept refrigerated) is kept.

In the TITANIC, is someone knows what was the Pantry as well as the Pantryman ? Is it for food or wine ?

Thanks !

Kareen

According to this thread the pantryman took care of both. Food and wine stored in the pantry. Their main job it seems was to keep the pantry room stocked from the ship stores.
