Hi William.

Phew! Not much information needed then!

May I ask: what part of Lusitania's story are you researching, and why the interest in those particular people's dates of birth and death?

You're absolutely correct, William.

It is really hard to find out that sort of information, and would have taken Lusitania researchers a great deal of effort to ascertain the answers.

If you've researched part of the Lusitania story yourself, then perhaps you could share the information you've acquired in return for the answers to your questions. Normally, by offering quid pro quo one has a better chance finding out what one wants.

William- you might also want to give the Lusy experts here a chance to respond before opening a new thread for every single passenger for whom you want information, or post as you have done before, please, with a list of names.

No worries, William. Just bear Shelley's and Mark's advice in mind for the future, read some of the Lusitania threads to get an idea of what's already been discussed, and you'll do fine.

Mr. Graham---

You've already made two requests in this thread, and at least one other in another thread, for the information concerning Charles Jeffery, and no one has responded. You should take this as meaning that (a) no one has that information or (b) anyone who does have that information is not willing to share it. Please be guided accordingly.

You've also been asked on several occasions by several moderators to limit your requests to a single thread, that being this one, to which I've moved your message from the new thread where you initially placed it. Pease, again, be guided accordingly.

>Charles Harwood Knight, 1st Class Passenger
( Date of birth

William- here is a tip. Go to Ellis Island.org You will find birthdates for both Harwood and Naina Knight there. Many of the manifests contain birthdates, and many of the passengers made repeated crossings. There is only one listing for the Knights with the birthdates given, but it is not hard to find.

Regarding C.T. Jeffrey. He was the son of one of the giants of the early auto industry, and came this // close to immortality himself in the automotive pantheon. His company, founded in the 1870s survived until 1987. If you Google some of the automotive history websites, you'l find his near miss to greatness (he was the great grandfather of the Gremlin and the Pacer, amongst others) AND his death date. Several other passengers you requested are in Part 2 of Mike and my article which Phil Hind has and will be putting up by October. Photos and dates ofr death will be available then.

Here is another hint: The Newspaper of Note maintains an obituary list in its yearly index. Pick a year beyond which you KNOW Jeffrey could not have been alive, and work backwards.

With regards to your request- I can't give the information offboard for the simple reason that my research partner and I have invested a large amount of money and a fair amount of time tracking the death dates down. There are several more articles in the works, Mine, Mike's, and Ours, and I cannot give away something which only half "belongs" to me.

But, here is what you need to find Mr. Jeffrey, who is a very easy survivor to locate:

*His father founded Rambler Bicycle in the 1870s.
*Introduced successful Rambler automobile ca 1905.
*Upon the death of his father, Jeffrey discontinued the successful Rambler and introduced the unsuccessful Jeffrey.
* Sells the Jeffrey company to Thomas Nash in 1916.
*Nash Automobile survives until 1957 at which point it becomes Rambler again.
*AMC (Rambler) survives until 1987. Dozens of books about AMC/Rambler/Nash have been written, some of which contain the elusive death year, if not exact date.

*Jeffrey outlived President Harding but did not outlive President Kennedy.

*His death date fell within the average for a white male of his generation.

Start with the NY Times Index if you dont have access to a library with a large automotive section. Believe me, he is not at all difficult to track down.

William: Try requesting copies of his university records. In addition to his life as a Canadian Cowboy, he was also a pre-med student, and you might be suroprsied by what you find there....
