James Harris passed away Jan. 8 in Lucerne, Calif., at the age of 86.

PEARL HARBOR (NNS) -- Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead announced in Navy administrative message 149/11 April 29, that Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH) was recognized as a winner of the 2011 Commander in Chief's Annual Award for Installation Excellence.

Pearl Harbor-Hickam was one of six installations honored in a formal joint service ceremony at the Pentagon May 4.

Service Members Honor Fallen WWII Veteran

PEARL HARBOR (NNS) -- The life of a retired Navy chief petty officer and World War II veteran was honored in Hawaii by service members and close friends in Honolulu and aboard Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, July 9-11.

Hundreds of people attended a memorial service July 9 aboard the USS Missouri Memorial for retired Chief Boatswain's Mate Harold B. Estes, who died May 17. His ashes were interned during a ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl July 11.
