This is not the photo which went for £800 on ebay btw. There's another post-card up for sale with this image. Anyone know when it may have been taken ?

That to me is a different image of the ship - the one I saw on ebay seemed to be taken more nearer the bow.

Although taken at the same time, this image shows more of her side. Or am I wrong?

I must confess to being somewhat surprised to see this image posted in this thread.

As the winning bidder on the recent ebay auction for the Britannic photo, an auction which I was delighted to win (and which I paid a very very high price for), I spoke to the original owner of my own photo. He states that to the best of his knowledge the photo is unique, and it is indeed a small, yellowing 'snap' photograph with some unique handwriting on the back. He also states that the picture above is an exact match, right down to the sea's waves.

As a result of this information, it brings to light a disturbing question as to the above photo's authenticity, and I wonder if you could help me Miles? I've tried to find the other auction where the image you have posted here is being sold, on ebay, without success. Both myself and the original owner would appreciate it if you could post a specific url so that we might trace the other auction.

It would seem very unlikely that two identical photographs could appear on ebay in the space of a fortnight, particularly since mine is an apparently unique picture rather than a mass-produced postcard, and at the moment it looks -- sadly -- as if another seller out there has taken it upon themselves to take the scan from the original auction and sell it as a postcard. I very much hope that there is another explanation, but the original owner is prepared to instigate legal action for any violation of copyright.

I would consider it advisable to remove the image from this thread, since I know that you would not want to propagate a copyright violation -- however inadvertently.

Mark Chirnside and I have just discussed the thread on this site and I am very dis-appointed that some sad individual has copied a photograph that does not belong to them.
Can I please state here, that any copying of the Britannic photograph now in Mark Chirnside's collection is a breach of copyright and will be dealt with accordingly. Permission must be obtained through the owner (M.C)as I have handed all rights to him. The people who do this sort of thing are thiefs and as such will be prosecuted.

I have never understood people who do this sort of thing, have you not got a life????

Hello Inger,

Thanks for removing the photograph, it's appreciated.

Meanwhile, if anyone else has come across the other ebay auction -- apparently selling this copyrighted image or a print of it -- please let either myself or John White know, in order that we might contact the seller as a matter of some urgency.

Best regards,

Mark.

many thanks Inger, we are very grateful for your help and our search for the culprit continues.!!!!

I have had problems in the past with a certain individual in Scotland using our logo on our headed letters !!! impending prosecution soon cured that problem.

If anyone out there, sees the photo reproduced, can they in the 1st instance contact Mark or myself and we will take action from there and put an end to their reign of copying!!!!
