No, I'm not referring to his reaction upon hearing that Major Butt had possibly been lost in the Titanic sinking.
Swinging from the sublime to the ridiculous, I was recently doing some deep digging at the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Collection when I stumbled upon this unique and priceless photo:

Possibly representing the antithesis of "Gilded Age" ostentation -- although, I'll admit, she *is* cute -- President Taft indeed owned a pet cow named Pauline Wayne, who appears to have done her patriotic bit by keeping various official lawns in Washington, DC, neatly cropped.
A curiosity, I'll admit, and only loosely on topic. But it does contribute to our knowledge of the social mil[k]ieu. ;^)
Cheers,
John
