There were other historical inaccuracies in the final RTT script that need not have been there since Cussler's novel had gotten the background details right.

Bigalow refers to a "Cargo Hold #9 on D-Deck" as where Brewester led him down. No such location. In the novel, it was the accurate Cargo Hold #1 on G-Deck.

And had the Titanic been intact with only one funnel missing, it would have been the #1 funnel missing, not the #2 funnel. Everyone before the discovery of the wreck knew that the first funnel for certain had broken off.

The 2nd funnel missing was rumoured to be down to the publicity department. If they used any images of the liner breaking the surface with the No1 funnel missing, they felt people may not recognise the ship as that of Titanic. A lot of the original film artwork around the time did show the liner sitting on the seafloor with her No1 funnel broken off.

You're right about that, I do remember some early artwork on the first paperback version of the novel to acknowledge the movie which showed the Titanic on the ocean floor with the first funnel missing.
