In October of 1987 Titanic artifacts got the media circus treatment in the form of a live broadcast from Paris, France, called "Return to the Titanic-Live!" It shocked even pro-salvage advocates. This writer recently gave it a retrospective slam in this blog post:

Hey, since Telly Savalas hosted this turkey, it seemed an appropriate title! I still wonder why they picked Telly for this.

Hello y'all. Yes, the most controversial of them all. Return to The Titanic 1987 in my opinion, is pretty ok. Telly Savalas hosted this one. IFREMIR was at Titanic. There were major discoveries made in this broadcast, such as the Starboard Hull hole, the torn but intact propellers, and more. Rusticles scraped away reveal Titanic's Name on the Bow, intact. Why was it controversial? IFREMIR salvaged items from inside the Wreck. Things such as the Mast lamp. They had promised not to salvage from inside the Bow. People were not happy! thoughts?
