Scandinavian Titanic Society

A new Titanic website just emerged, http://www.scandtitanic.com. It is the Scandinavian Titanic Society. Be sure to click on the "English" link to read the site in English.

For any Board Members out there who wish to attend the Titanic Film Festival in Stockholm here's the info: (All of this info can be read from the site if you click on the link entitled, "Event."

On this same link is written, "The only permanent Titanic Exhibition in Northern Europé is to be found at the Emigrant Institute in Växjö, Sweden. The exhibit is based on the artefacts from third class passenger Mauritz Ådahl, who perished. You can among other things see his watch that was found on his body."

If you click on the link entitled, "Board of Directors", there's a picture to the right of the page. The fellow in the back row far left looks much like Phil Hind! Yikes!

None of the names of the Board of Directors sound familiar. Well what did I expect?

>>> None of the names of the Board of Directors sound familiar.

erm... only some of the top Titanic researchers in Europe!

Damning with faint praise... still I'm sure Lars will be delighted with the comparison.

P.

Oh come on! You wouldn't use Hind's face if you wanted to advertise something other than dog biscuits, surely! Just had a message from Lars Lifvendahl - he is contemplating suicide!
Seriously, I have received the initial Scandinavian Titanic Society's magazine "The Ocean Ferry" printed in both Swedish and English and it's looking very good indeed.

So now we have top Titanic researchers in Europe too! Splendid! I guess you could say that I was expecting to see some of the more familiar names on this Board of Directors site that I have come to read about so often in my Titanic endeavors. Seems as if there isn't any Titanic researcher you don't know, Phil! Hats off to you. It would be interesting to note that all these Titanic Societies have different information to print in their mags. Guess there's no shortage of research material to print, eh.

Lars didn't know he had such rivalry!

Geoff ~ So the Scandinavian's mag is looking good, huh. May I be so kind as to inquire what parts are looking satisfactory? For some reason (and no offense to the mag) I dismissed their mag as being a replicate of THS and BHS. My error. I haven't even read either mag! I am profligately ashamed of myself!

Dog biscuits! We have now tempted the wiles of Phil to go into advertising instead of forum management. Bring out the ladders! Oh, could this be such rubbish!

Teri, Well, there are some excellent photographic reproductions, a description of the items displayed by the National Postal Museum in Stockholm for their "Letters From The Titanic" exhibition, another article pertaining to the designer of the davits - Axel Welin, another on Michel Navratil.
Given that this is the Society's initial magazine, they have produced a very nice example which I am sure will go from strength to strength.

Geoff,

Sounds good, sounds good. The name Michel Navratil is familiar but I just can't take account on who it is. Would you care to oblige a woman in distress? Okay, you can call me absent-minded! I'd sure love to see their photographic reproductions sometime.

Teri

Teri,
The Navratil children were the famous "orphan" boys from France on their way to US with their father (who had actually taken the boys from their mother). And were reunited with their mom later. Check the board under third class passengers, Navratil.

Michel died recently.

Hope this is helpful.
Maureen.

Maureen,

Ah yes, I remember now. The orphan boys who were kidnapped by their father and then reunited with their mother. There are many different kinds of dramas that unfolded aboard Titanic. This one had a fairly good ending. Don't we all wish that the Titanic had made her maiden voyage and all the dramas that took place had good endings. Such a shame, such a tragedy. Thank you Maureen for obliging a woman in distress.

Steve Arnold,

Thank you for the info.

Teri
