From Secretary of the Navy Public Affairs

PORTSMOUTH, England (NNS) -- Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Donald C. Winter visited the Vosper Thornycroft (VT) Shipbuilding facility Feb. 21.

Since becoming the SECNAV, Winter has visited all the major shipbuilders in the United States to further his understanding of the shipbuilding industry and see best practices. His visit to VT expands that effort to include the best practices of foreign shipbuilders.

VT Shipbuilding, a longtime shipbuilder in England, opened a new facility within the British Royal Navy’s main Surface Fleet Operating Base in Portsmouth four years ago. The facility is dedicated to construction of military vessels for the Royal Navy and other navy’s and coast guards worldwide.
