Second Class Entrance

Hi all,

Looking at photographs of Olympic in her later years, can anyone explain why there were additional deckhouses added on both sides of the second-class entrance on the boat-deck? Does anyone know what the purposes of these additional rooms were used for? There are photos of these added rooms in "Titanic and her sisters Olympic and Britannic". Why would White Star want to give up more deck space? Those rooms take a lot of space.

Nigel,
Though I can't answer why the rooms were added, I can say that, according to the Olympic plans in "Anatomy," the port side was a Machine Room and a Radio Room was added on the starboard side.
