Hi Dan,

Want to buy this book, however I've brought two books three months ago maybe four months ago and they both never arrived. How can I get a copy of this book without going through internet site? Such as Abe books, Amazon etc...

Is there a chance I could purchase screenshots of ur book? Or if anyone else has this book, I can purchase screenshots from you? It's the safest way and I do not wish to lose more of my money when books never arrived.

I have a copy and it is excellent for anyone wanting to understand Henry Wilde. His letters are very personal and give detailed insight into his life and especially the emotional effect the loss of his wife had on him during 1911.
I enjoy reading your website about the officers. Wilde's death sure was a terrible blow for his family

Thanks for your kind words. The Wilde section of the website is about to be renewed to bring it inline with the other officers - it will go from 4 pages to 12 pages, so a lot more information will be added. So if you are particularly interested in Wilde this will provide a large amount of new biographical information. I am hoping it will go live by the end of this week.

Great, looking forward to read it.

I'm curious about one thing: did Wilde mention his late wife in late 1911? I don't think he shot himself just because he missed her, but anyway I'm curious

My newly updated and extensive biography of Wilde is now live on my website (Titanic's Officers - RMS Titanic - Chief Officer Wilde) if that is any help but in regards to mentioning his wife in late 1911, I would say undoubtedly so, if his letters from early 1911 are anything to go by. He wrote many letters aboard Olympic but at present only a few have been published.

I don't think he shot himself just because he missed her, but anyway I'm curious
It is dangerous to read between the lines but his letter of January 30th 1911 is particularly poignant: " I don't seem to have much to look forward to now. Nobody knows the knock I have had. I don't know how I am going to get over my loss. I used to look forward so much to getting home and having a few days with Pollie… I can't understand why I should have this terrible trouble put onto my life. I don't seem to have anything to live for if it was not for the children. I would not care what happened to me."

Yes, very poignant... His biography is really sad, he was a pothumous child and his mother died when he was young too...then he lost his wife, and his children were very young when he died. It os interesting to me, however, that one of his sons followed his father's footsteps
