Good God! I'd forgotten that Saale was part of the Hoboken Fire. That day was one of the worst ever in the New York area and the General Slocum further up the list happened just four years later. What a horrific beginning to the 20th Century! The Hoboken Fire and the Galveston Hurricane just 2 months later, the General Slocum and the San Fransisco Earthquake. This century seemed to have started off on a bad foot too: September 11, the tsunami following a bad hurricane season, Katrina, and the Pakistan earthquake (following a worse hurricane season). Let's start the 22nd Century a bit better! A very interesting link, thanks!
