There is no such place as New Brighton cemetery, the graveyards correct title is Rake Lane Cemetery, Wallasey, Merseyside.

I am 70, and was raised in Wallasey. In the 1950's or 60's I read a library book setting out the case for Captain Lord's innocence, and it might have even been written by him. If the book still exists, it would be in the Central Library in Wallasey - now part of Wirral Borough Council. It could throw some light on the controversy, but I have never heard of the book since those days. Isn't it interesting that Leyland Line got rid of Captain Stanley Lord? Wasn't Leyland Line part of International Mercantile Marine, as was White Star Line, and all more or less controlled by the American financier, JP Morgan?

It is sad that such a man was involved in a conspiracy to sink the Olympic (renamed the Titanic) for an insurance scam. His role was to be a saviour but it all went horribly wrong costing the lives of 1502 passengers. Kazz

You have your facts wrong. The White Star Line company had three "Olympic class liners." They were the Titanic, the Olympic and Britannic. The Olympic sailed before the Titanic and there was never any renaming of the ships. There also never an insurance scam to sink the Titanic.

Actually, Britannic was originally to be named Gigantic, but changed to Britannic for fear of being too closely associated with the "size name" of Titanic.

He was innocent, it was all actually because of an optical illusion since they were right on the verge of the Labrador current. In 2012 a historian named Tim Molten finally found out what actually happened. Its all really interesting, watch "Titanic's Final Mystery". You will feel so bad for Captain Lord.

I don't know if there is a book that covers his early life. If there is I haven't seen it. Just snipets in articles like he was married and had a son. Don't think theres much out there on that but I could be wrong. Sure Arun or Seumas would know if one existed. I did a quick scan and came up with nada. Since he first went to sea when he was 13 years old probably didn't have much of childhood in the traditional sense. Cheers.

You could research his family yourself on ancestry.com using the census' of England & Wales, birth, marriage and death records ?
He doesn't have any direct family alive. His only child, Stanley T. Lord, died childless.

Perhaps not much help right now but there is an in-depth biography on Captain Lord being developed for the Titanic officers website (www.titanicofficers.com) that will cover his early life. I am presently finishing the biography on Captain Rostron, which has is understandably quite detailed, but once that is complete then Lord will be the next one released, on this page here: Titanic's Officers - SS Californian

Hello Steven.
Can't offer that much but here goes.Stanley Lord was born 13th Seprember 1877 in Bolton Lancashire.He was the youngest of six sons of James and Charlotte Lord and grew up in a disciplined and church going environment.
Of Stanley's 5 brothers one died aged seven , another after 5 years in the army emigrated to America where he qualified as a doctor and settled in San Francisco.
The remaining three all went into the firm of Dobson and Barlow manufacturers of and exporters of textile machinery - they travelled All over the world installing the machinery in Japan, Russia and Germany.Stanley would travel the world in the Mercantile Marine. As an aside - one of Stanley’s brothers went to the same local school as Arthur Rostron
On 7th May 1891 his father took him to Liverpool to sign indentures with the firm of J.B. Walmsley and company.
That same day and still four months short of his fourteenth birthday he joined his first ship - the Liverpool built iron barque NAIAD 205ft long and 1039 tons net.
