Starship Titanic

I have often seen ads online for Starship Titanic. Since christmas is comming up and I have to start telling people what I want, I was wondering if any of my fellow Titanic Enthusiasts have ever played this game and how you liked it. What is it exactly about? What relation does it have to the Titanic? It looks like an interesting game, but I just wanted to check in with you guys. Thanks!

It has no relationship to the Titanic. It's a comical but intricate game from the wacky mind of sci-fi author Douglas Adams that puts you aboard a giant out-of control spaceship where you have to work your way through each section to find the clues necessary to fix the ship's computer brain. The only similarity to the real Titanic is the name and the fact that you're on a luxury type spaceship and you work your way from third class to first and that like the real Titanic this ship was the last word in everything but everything has gone wrong.

Terry Jones of Monty Python is the voice of a comical parrot, while a John Cleese sound-alike keeps putting me on the floor with his self-destruct countdown that gets disrupted whenever you touch the screen.

It's worth it, but have the cheat manual handy if you have little patience for getting to the next level. Since my brain doesn't know how to handle these deductive puzzles, I'm lost without the manual and even with it, it takes me hours to get through the entire game.

On the plus side, at least you don't get killed with every wrong turn you make, though as mentioned you can set off a self-destruct computer with a 1000 countdown, but if you keep touching the screen the flustered John Cleese voice will lose count and start over. Definitely a 7-9 in terms of difficulty.

Now I've got a new pc (with sound - hurrah!) I've stepped through this game again and enjoyed it immensely. I remembered enough not to be stumped by some of the trickier steps, but not too much that it was too tedious to replay. It's still the only computer game I've ever played that's caused me to laugh aloud.

I also worked out how to 'disarm' the bomb rather than just distracting him during the countdown, another laugh aloud moment. Nothing to do with Titanic though, apart from the name and that it's the maiden voyage of a luxury (star)ship and things Go Wrong.
