Yeah, I agree. In this case, the Munchen/Steuben would have ceased to be under NDL service after the destructive fire of 1930? Which line controlled it after that? Or was it directly under Nazi control? As a "Strength through Joy" cruise liner, this definitely means that it has been taken over by the Nazi KdF authorities I don't think NDL would ever run this kind of Nazi propagandist movement if the ship was under their control.

I've got my copy of National Geographic already! Hahaha...not bad the coverage for the story but again I think they should tell us more of what the ship was before WWII as most of the story talked about the sinking and salvage operations.

If anyone knows of additional resource material on the Steuben I would appreciate the info as it was the ship my great grandparents immigrated to the US on, July 2, 1923. When it was named the Munchen.

The wreck seems to be in good shape- I wonder what great liners she passed during her time afloat?
