I just bought an old wooden trunk here in Sweden with some stickers on it saying:
ITE STAR LINE
New York
Checked baggage
amship
3673
Destination

The other stiicker says: THENBURG

Can anyone help me with understanding this? What does "amship" mean? Is it steamship? Did any of the White Star lines depart from Gothenburgh? Is it possible to track the number on the luggage sticker?

Hello, Annika---

2. No, no White Star ships called at Gothenburg, but White Star was very active in recruiting passengers from Scandinavia, many of whom who travel overland to Gothenburg and then by steamer to England to cross the Atlantic on White Star liners.
