There was a review of this book today, April 11, in USA Today. The reviewer thought the bios of the individual musicians were dull. But the rest of the review seemed positive, particularly for readers that have an interest in the Titanic (which would include most of us here).

This could have been a great book. The author put in a lot of hard work.

ET-review-The-Band-That-Played-On

But it is marred by the likes of the following, referring to a particular arrangement of Nearer, My God to Thee -

quote:

'It raised the question as to whether this was the version, or a version, that the band played on August 15, 1912.'

Bloody hell.

Did nobody with any nous look at the MS prior to publication?

Nonetheless, this is amazingly the first book that looks alone at the Titanic band.

The similarly titled 'And the band played on,' is about Jock Hume. Another book about Hume is being worked on by a chap called Paul Hill.

Seven out of ten for this one, in my own opinion.
