Hi everyone,

Those who are interested in engineering may want to visit the website of the cable stayed bridge of Rion-Antirion,which is under construction here in Greece(it will be ready before the Olympic Games).

The bridge is built to withstand a collision of a 180.000 tons tanker, wind speed of 250 km per hour and over 7 Richter scale earthquake. It will be the longest cable stayed bridge in the world with a continuous deck of 2,250 meters.

The website is very user-friendly.Take a look at:

The Rio-Antirrio Bridge was opened the day before the Athens Summer Olympics in 2004 and the Olympic Torch was carried across the bridge. The bridge has two vehicle travel lines in each direction, an emergency lane, and a pedestrian walkway. Engineering challenges faced with constructing the bridge include deep water, insecure materials for the foundation, seismic activity, probability of tsunamis, and the expansion of the Gulf of Cornith due to seismic activity. It is indeed a very impressive feat of engineering.
