The Lord-MacQuitty Collection

I have heard from Kate Jarvis at the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich, http://www.nmm.ac.uk. that they have now catalogued Walter Lord's papers. They are in a collection with William MacQuitty's papers titled the Lord-MacQuitty Papers. The call number is LMQ. At present they have catalogued items quite generally but they hope to create more specific entries in th near future. I hope this is of some help to other researchers.

Thanks for that update, Charlie. I've always found the staff at the James Caird Library to be wonderfully helpful! Looking forward to dropping in and perusing the papers next time I'm in London.

If and when I finally get my summer leave, Charlie, which is supposed to begin today but seems to be shrinking before my eyes, I shall spend a day there as I have never been yet, and I'll keep you posted re the papers.

For those interested in just what the Caird Library at National Maritime Museum at Greenwich, UK holds in the Lord-MacQuitty Collection. Follow these steps.
Go to www.nmm.ac.uk. When the page comes up click on Collections and Research (Blue Band), when this comes up click on Library and Manuscripts Catalogue, (Right hand side of page). This will bring up a template, type in Load-MacQuiity Collection in top line. There are 519 items listed, click on (jump) type the number of the item you want in the box click on jump and a page describing that item will come up. I hope this is helpful to other researchers.

Is it possible for copies to be made of some of these documents? I'm stuck here in the States but would love to read some of the stuff in the collection for my research.

Sadly not. I asked about this, but the museum said that, as the collection was a bequeath-ment (?), they can only copy letters written by Lord, and not by others to him.

Charles Pellegrino is transcribing some correspondence on his website though.

ARGH. I saw he had some letters written to him by Harold Bride and to say I would dearly love to read those would be a major understatement. Man, I am so disappointed.

This must be something like Time #3,476 that I have rued my location on the wrong side of the Atlantic for all the research I want to do...
