For my money, this drama presents the most human portrayl of John Jacob and Madeline Astor.
Sure Janssen has a beard which makes him look more like Abe Lincoln, but his portrayl grew on me to the point the Astors won my sympathy when they are snubbed on the boat deck off Queenstown when John Jacob tries to introduce Madeline to two family friends only to get the cold shoulder. No wonder Janssen was cast. Apart from his star value, the man has the ability to win the sympathy of viewers when playing an innocent man in the pillory. No wonder he won fame as Dr. Richard Kimble! :)
All in all, Janssen's portrayl made me sad Astor was lost. And want to learn more about the man behind the plastic "Titanic sinking victim" doll he has become which is now part and parcel of the Titanic's legend.
