The pianos

Apologies for reviving a two-year-old thread from the dead—

Were these pianos exclusively reserved for the ship's band, or could passengers play them if they wished?

Also, I believe the band played in two groups, one consisting of a pianist in the à la carte restaurant and the Café Parisien. But there aren't any pianos in those two areas of the ship, so how would the pianist have managed?

The upright pianos on the boat deck landing of the forward Louis XIV staircase, the C-deck landing of the after second class staircase and the grand piano in the D-deck reception room were all reserved for the quintet, recently claims have been made that the reception room of the á la carte restaurant on B-deck may had a piano for the restaurant trio however the presence can't be confirmed nor denied presently.

The piano in the D-deck first class dining saloon was used during the Sunday service however it's unknown who would have played the piano, however in the second class dining saloon on D-deck is known to have been played by a passenger, Robert Douglas Norman, during the Sunday mass that evening.

The upright piano in third class general room on C-deck, under the Poop Deck, was specially there for the passengers to play.

In total there were 6 confirmed Steinway piano's and possibly a seventh unconfirmed one.

There were six pianos onboard, five of six were made by STEINWAY & SON, and three of them were made for 1st class, the other two were for 2nd class. They were all manufactured with delicate carve. The rest one, an ordinary factory instrument, was of course for 3rd class.

The piano in the third class general room on C-deck has suggested to be a standard Steinway Model K.
