The Titanic Experience by Beau Riffenburgh

I ordered this book on e-Bay. Brand new. I saw it in Barnes and Noble, but it was thirty dollars. Might not seem like much to some of you, but I didn't have it. lol
Any way, it has blueprints and tickets and menus that come out of it. I thought it would be pretty cool, but I'm kinda nervous that it may be a kids book. If it is I will still enjoy it, but I didn't see a thread on it so I thought I would see if anyone has heard of it. If not, I will post about it a give a review lol if anyone is interested.

Thanks,
Kendra

Hello, Kendra. I saw it yesterday in Barnes and Noble. It was shrink-wrapped, so I could not look thru it, but my impression was that it was a very striking looking presentation box of memorabilia, and not a book per se. The cover work was nicely done.

Hi Kendra,

I saw it on a recent trip to Chicago and leafed through it - the facsimiles of tickets/menus etc. are kind of neat to pull out and look but in terms of actual content, it's not what I would call an authoritative Titanic book (not just for children though either). Since I had just purchased TTSM, I decided not to buy this one.

Hope you enjoy it!

Jim, that's the impression I got as well. It was shrink wrapped at the Barnes and Noble in my town as well. Derek, that's pretty much what I figured. A friend of mine was watching Ghosts of the Abyss with me the other day and she stated that she wants some blueprints for the ship. When I saw that the book had it, I wanted get it for her to at least look at but I knew that I would probably enjoy it.
I am still very anxious to get it so I can see for my self.

The cover design was striking enough to cause me to stop and look. So, if one is looking for a Titanic presentation set, this one is particularly attractive. I anticipate getting several for Christmas, as relatives see it and go "Ah-HA!"

The online reproduction of the cover I've seen wouldn't stop me in my tracks but all warnings duly noted and the family'n'friends will be instructed not to buy - I'm trying to downsize the collection at the moment, not add to it.

There's been a few other publications along these lines, but from the contents list is seems to be a more comprehensive collection of reproduction ephemera and paperwork than previously available.

Enjoy, Kendra, and if you got it at the right price, even better.

I don't have many books in my collection, but the ones that I do have a greatly enjoy. That's not to say that I haven't read a lot of them. I borrowed all of the ones that they had at my local library, as I have mentioned in another thread

sorry.
However on my recent trip to the museum, when it was here, I passed up an item and decided not to buy it. Which I have regretted ever since. lol
Thanks Fiona. I will.

I hear you on the Museum trip. It's tricky balancing the budget against the opportunities that may not occur again. I've got a few that got away, but there's also a few that came back around and at a better price too. Happy hunting.

Fiona, That is what I'm hoping for. I passed it up because I didn't think I would enjoy it very much. But ever since I have not stopped thinking about it and really regret not buying it. Hopefully I do have another opportunity, and its cheaper. lol

Thanks,
Kendra

Got the book yesterday! It is wonderful! It has a lot of information, but I believe it is aimed at someone with slightly less knowledge on the subject than myself. Not necessarily a children's book, but some of the information repeats on the pages. I haven't actually had the chance to sit and read the whole thing, but from what I have read I have enjoyed.

Thanks,
Kendra

Excellent. Did you get it for a good price, too?

(I shouldn't really be paying any attention to new releases as I'm meant to be downsizing and have already sold off a few books from my Titanica collection.)

I got it for six dollars less than at the store.

Not much, but every little bit helps. I would be willing to take some of those books off your hands. I could give you my address and everything. lol just kidding.
It doesn't have menus as I previously stated, but those are pretty easy to come by.

I really like it because it gives you a pretty basic run through of the disaster, and aftermath. All the way up to the discovery and salvage. I highly recommend this to anyone that may be just starting out in their interest in titanic. Although, I have been interested in Titanic for many years, and I still greatly enjoy it.

Thanks,
Kendra
