The Titanic's Musicians

First I hope that this is the right category.. As an amateur violinist I have always had the highest respect and admiration for the Titanic's band members. I know that there is a memorial to Wallace Hartley for I've seen a photograph of the memorial but I was wondering does anyone know if there are any memorials to the other musicians and if so where and in what form? Thank you very much.. Melissa K.

There is a musicians memorial in Southampton, and also a rotunda in a park in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia dedicated to them. I'm sure there are many more, they were true heroes that night in my eyes.

Australia has another monument to the whole band at Broken Hill. There used to be a memorial plaque on the bandstand in Kadina, South Australia, but some careless coot lost it. Attempts are being made to find it, but don't hold your breath.

I recall seeing recently a posting about a new monument to one of the European members of the band. I'm also almost sure there is one for Jock Hume. Can anybody do better?

Alex, I'm in Adelaide.

Melissa, photos of the Ballarat and Broken Hill memorials are on the Internet. I'm pretty sure they are on this site. Have a little search.

Hi Melissa,

Click on this link and you will see a photo of the musicians memorial in Southampton . I visited it when I was there last July.

Just scroll down the page a bit.

Best regards,

Thanks Jason for that.. That's some fantastic photos! Great memorial to the musicians as well as the engineers. You're one lucky dog getting to go over there.. That would be a dream trip for me and I would love to sail (because I sure would hate to fly!).. Thanks for sharing that.. Sincerely, Melissa K.

Hi Melissa,

You're most welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed my photos! Being able to go on that trip and then coming back on the QE2 was truly a dream trip for me.

If you haven't already seen them and are interested, their are some photos their that I posted of Ireland including Cobh which was Titanic's last port of call, and Harland & Wolff shipyard in Belfast. I hope you get there one of these days, and are able to experience the same things that I had the pleasure of experiencing.

Best regards,

Jason

Thanks Dave.. Everyone has been so wonderful to share these memorials.. Perhaps someday I'll actually get to visit them.. I'll pull out my violin and play a tribute to them.. I did incidentally on April 15th.. Nearer My God to Thee.. Thanks so much everyone.. Melissa K.
