Third Class Men

As I was looking at the lists of those that survived the Titanic sinking, I was surprised by the number of male third class survivors. We know that if you were in third class your chances of survival were slim in the first place And we also know of Smith's mandate for women and children so how cant that many man from third class have slipped in. My theory is that these were single, unattached men with no families to look after so they made their way to the boat deck easier that men loaded down with wives and children. Any other ideas?

i think quite a few were able to get into boats 11, 13 and 15.

i know of only a couple of third class couples able to get into a boat together. Most 3rd class male survivors do indeed seem to have been single (no wives, children on ship).
